INTERCLUB TRANSFERS / REGRADE

Interclub transfers (not to be confused with intercounty transfers) is the process by which a player that plays with one USGAA-affiliated club wishes to play with another USGAA-affiliated club. The most common reason for this to occur is that the player is moving from one locale to another. Transferring a player within the USGAA correctly is of the utmost importance if that player intends on playing in the USGAA Final with their new club. If it is done incorrectly or not at all prior to registration deadline, the player will be unable to participate with their new club at the USGAA Finals

Regrading is the process by which a player (typically due to transfer) or an entire club decides to change the grade of the code at the USGAA Finals that they are participating in. The most common reason for this to occur is that the player is moving from one locale to another. Typically it means that the grade the player previously played at is not available for them to participate in within the new locale and thus they do not have a choice. In the vast MAJORITY of cases, regrades occur automatically (for individuals transferring into a new club). In some cases, a club may voluntarily regrade themselves. The most common reason for this to occur is that the club's membership now conforms to the on-field requirements set forth by the USGAA (i.e. too many Irish players). A club can also voluntarily regrade themselves two years after winning a national championship at a higher grade. The interclub transfer is handled on Servasport. The individual regrade process is handled by a form (again, this is very unlikely to ever be needed)

The purpose of this interclub transfers and regrade section of the Heartland USGAA website is to provide a definitive how-to on the interclub transfer process and answer typically asked questions. If you cannot find an answer to a specific interclub transfer question, feel free to e-mail the divisional registrar for assistance

INTERCLUB TRANSFER / REGRADES FACTS
  • Interclub transfers are due by April 30th of each year (registration day)...it is in your best interest to get these in long before registration is due (USGAA 2018 14(a))
  • A player who joins, by transfer, a club whose highest status is lower that the player’s current championship status, shall be automatically regraded to that Club’s highest Championship status (GAA Official Guide 2016 6.20)
  • Individual player regrades (RESIDENT Senior / Intermediate to Junior) are due by April 30th of each year (registration day)...it is in your best interest to get these in long before registration is due (USGAA 2018 14(a)). In the vast majority of regrade cases, this is not necessary as the player will fall under the stipulation described above (GAA Official Guide 2016 6.20)
  • Individual player regrades (RESIDENT Senior to Intermediate) are due July 1st (USGAA 2018 14(b))
  • Club regrades are due by March 31 (USGAA 2018 14(c) / 18). If a club has teams playing in multiple grades, it is best to regrade the entire club to the lower grade and then play up. When it comes time to enter the club roster, the players playing at the upper grade ARE not allowed to be on the lower graded roster
  • Interclub transfers are submitted via Servasport (the same system used for Intercounty Transfers), except for the Ladies clubs (which use their respective forms found at USGAA Registration)
  • Club regrades are submitted by sending an e-mail to the USGAA Chairman, Secretary, and registrar
  • Any player that previously played for another club (in the US) will need to be appropriately transferred before registering them with your club (unless they meet the criteria described on the Non-Club Player Form

GENERAL REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
The interclub transfer / regrade process is typically initiated by the player. The divisional registrar or secretary will send the form (preferably digitally) to the player to be filled out. The required information asked for on the interclub transfer / regrade form is as follows:
  • Full Name (as is listed on the player's previous club registration)
  • Full Address
  • Present USGAA club
  • Present USGAA division
  • New USGAA club
  • New USGAA division
  • Present Grade
  • New Grade
  • Player Signature

  • Present Club Secretary Signature
  • New Club Secretary Signature
The form is then sent out to the USGAA secretary for review and approval. In all likelihood you will not hear a response unless there is an issue with the interclub transfer / regrade.
